Update:
This environment I am working on has been a real challenge, but in a good way. I have tried to but myself inside the footsteps of a teenage boy. I have tried to visualize what this boy is like, his personality, as if he actually existed. Being an older woman, I do not have the first hand experience of being a boy or a young teenage boy for that matter. Though as an artist, I like to push myself and see how far I can go. For this project I did allot of research, not only looking through pictures of boys rooms, but also talking to boys through my work and outside what their experiences have been and what their room looked like. It has been an interesting experience and I hope I make this environment believable.
I have been working allot lately on this room and have practically redesigned it from the layout of the room, to adding a bunch more models, changing the time period to the 90's, and using a new renderer, V Ray. I absolutely love this renderer, it make things much more realistic. Here is a render of the room lately.
I think it now feels allot better and more natural. I am still working on the lighting, I am trying to go for a morning, mid day look. Also the texturing still needs some work.
For this project I decided to create an room interior to showcase a shoe I had created awhile back for my demo reel. So far I have modeled everything from scratch, set up the scene, layed down base textures and played with some mood lighting. Scene was done with 3ds Max and Photoshop.
(This is a work in progress. I still need to add a lot more textures, fix some texture issues, work on final lighting, and add a few more assets to the room.)
Here are some adjustments I plan to make:
Inspriation and Thought Process Below:
This all stemed from a 3D shoe model I textured from awhile back. The shoe I had created was a boys old converse shoe, as shown below.
(Textured and Lit in 3Ds Max)
My focus on doing the shoe was to really push my texturing skills and make it look like a believable old and worn shoe. I was very happy with my final result. I was then thinking it would be nice if this shoe had a home to make it seem more real. I thought of who would own such a shoe and what type of personality this person had. As I kept thinking about it, it came to me that possibly a young boy, pre-teen would have owned and worn out the shoe. I thought back to my own personal experiences and could remember some kids wearing them when I was young. I do remember them being very popular, so I could imagine them being worn out of love.
After I came up with the idea to create a room, I delved into research by looking on the web and trying to find images for inspiration. I looked up boys room after boys room. I had a hard time finding anything useful. I kept thinking of the room, putting myself into a young teenage boys point of view and It hit me, this room should be messy! I started thinking that to push the personality maybe this boy is pretty messy, his room is unkept, the boy is a bit lazy and also has allot of different interests? So I tried my search again and found some good images to work from.
These are some images I found:
